Name: Adonica Shaw

Squarespace Template: Boho Social

What is your expertise? What do you do?
I'm the founder of the company Surrender Circle and the creator of the Self-Care Everyday Bookstore. We are a California based health and wellness tech company that provides wellness resources for women who are interested in self-care.

What is your favorite thing about having your own business?
The best thing is helping other people through my creative vision. I love that we created a space for health and wellness that not only helps us to amplify the voices of health and wellness authors, but also to be a resource to people who are looking to improve their overall health.

How did you find the whole process of website renovation with the Squarespace template?
It was very easy. I've used Squarespace for a few years now so I did already have some experience with the backend. But even if I didn't have the experience it still would have been easy to pick up.

Did something change after the website relaunch businesswise or moodwise for you personally?
After we updated and personalized the site with our branding and content our mood shifted from "we just have to get this done to we can get to market," to "wow, look at what we've accomplished through our shared creative vision." I realize this a nuance that may be hard to understand unless you've ever launched a business. But for those who have, you know how much more grateful and appreciative you become as you near your launch day. Our mood definitely shifted to being thankful for all of the twists and turns that happened in our quest to launch our online bookstore.

What's the next big step in your business? What are you launching next?

The next big step is to build out our blog. We don't have any big launches soon. We are just excited to finally be open to the public. You can never go wrong when you're in service to the betterment of other people, so instead of rushing to the next big thing we are just going to be present in this space and be a blessing to whomever decides to work with us.

What is the hardest lesson you learned in your business?
The hardest lesson I've learned is that there's no magic fairy that comes along and tells you when it’s the best time for you to start a business. You just have to make the jump when you feel called. I waited for a long time to get things up and going because the timing never seemed right. But then the pandemic started, and the need for businesses in the wellness and mental health space hit an all-time high. So I made the jump because I knew people needed what we had to offer. This situation made me realize it really just comes down to you and your mindset at the end of the day.

Why did you choose Boho Social template from our shop? How do you identify with the design?
We chose the design because it was already "on brand" for our business. We did make some changes to the color palette, and font types to match our logo and style guide. Aside from that we felt it was visually appealing for our target demographic and we could see the many ways we could adapt the template as the business grows.
