A Refined Refresh for a Squarespace Website of a Storytelling Photographer

Putting the spotlight on wedding, event, and branding photography

Our recent client is Jonny Donovan – a UK and International wedding and event photographer from London. When he contacted us he already had a Squarespace website that brought him traffic and leads, but he wanted to make it look more up-to-date and modern. Together we decided to give the website a facelift during a few VIP days.

Our main goal was to create a website structure that could host both wedding and event photography. To do that, we built three long landings – Weddings, Events, Headshots & Branding – and three separate portfolio pages for each.

We also agreed on a color palette that would work for any type of photography – a refined, neutral base with ivory and dark charcoal backgrounds. Accent tones include soft golds, taupes, and occasional warm beige panels to create visual contrast and highlight key sections.

Elegant serif fonts are used for headings, giving a classic, high-end feel. Paired with clean sans-serif body text for a modern and accessible reading experience. Even the logo uses this pair of fonts.

Neither colors nor fonts steal attention away from the main character of the website – photography. Large, high-resolution images dominate every page, emphasizing authenticity and emotion. A mix of black & white and color photography, depending on the mood and tone of the section around the website. Image galleries and portrait grids are used effectively to showcase the breadth and quality of work.
