What’s the difference between a one-page website and a website that has hundreds of pages?⠀
A landing page is a one-page website that has one concrete purpose: getting visitors to take a certain target action. The whole point of a landing page is getting contact information of people who might become your customers. Landing pages as we know them have been around for 8-10 years and have predictable structure (see one of my posts below about the ultimate LP structure).
You don’t need to hire a programmer to create a landing page. There’s a huge variety of ready-to-use page builders out there that do not require coding experience and can be used by marketing people.
LPs are suitable to quickly test ideas and niches. One page = one product or service.
Multi-page websites are for serious businesses that have an array of products/services. A landing page is simply not sufficient for an e-commerce company.
Multi-page websites, actually, can kill two birds with one stone: They are excellent for SEO and they can also contain landing pages. A set of landing pages in enhanced with a blog, services pages, a shop and a catalogue. The home page is often presented as a landing page.
So here’s a tip:
If you’re new, start with just one page. With time, add more pages and navigation to your website. This way you can reap the benefits of landing pages while getting the full power of SEO.
Landing pages are more likely to convert visitors into paying customers while a serious, multi-page website enhances your online presence and highlights your expertise.
