Delightful Showit Website for an Editor and Publisher
Creating an atmosphere of a children's story
John Fox is not a newcomer to the business world of publishing. Being an accomplished writer himself, he has helped hundreds of authors write, revise, and publish their books since 2006.
John has already had a very successful website when he came to us with a request to help him design his second website. He wanted to branch out the children's book editing and publishing part from his main business because the two have different visual aesthetics.
Originally, John had Squarespace as a platform in mind, but then he suggested we build the project using Showit. He liked one of our portfolio projects built with Showit – a website for Jen Glanz. Although we primarily work with Squarespace, our studio also has designed and launched many cool projects on Showit, and we were glad to work with it.
For his children's book publishing, John wanted to have a flowy design that was playful and serious at the same time. To create the atmosphere of a children's book story we added many illustrations from the big background compositions to small details scattered around every section. While cartoon animals dominate the opening screen of every page, little candies, stars, balloons, toys, and wavy section dividers breathe in a playful vibe to other sections.
Apart from bringing in the joyful and carefree vibe, we needed to set a professional and serious tone. Big serif headlines paired with DM Sans for buttons and paragraphs ensure readability and create a visual hierarchy. The combination of two fonts makes John’s voice sound clear and confident even through the screen.
To demonstrate John’s experience and expertise in the field we added sections that showcase children's books he has already helped publish. A simple image gallery and a scrolling block with book covers, as well as a testimonial section all work as proof that he knows the ins and outs of the biz.
To help John market his new writing course we designed a long-scroll sales page for it. In addition to general information and testimonials, it includes success stories, a course curriculum, and FAQs that maximize the chances of sales without being salesy or pushy at all.
The result is a joyful website with editorial design that will be an important addition to John’s book business.
Here’s what John says about working with us:
Olga and Roman were absolutely brilliant to work with. They were patient with all my questions and came up with gorgeous designs, and I love the finished product. I highly recommend you use them to design your next website!
